Late News papers can not be considered for the student paper contest.

The purpose of the student paper contest is to reward graduate students for exceptional research contributions. Acknowledging that many projects are part of a group effort, there is no limit on the number of authors of the manuscript (from within the student's institution or external). However, in the decision process the size of the group will be weighted against the level work, in order not to penalize small groups or individual contributions.

The rules are as follows:

• The first author must be a part-time or full-time student. Eligibility is established by a letter from the student's main adviser, stating that

   

  • the first author is a registered full-time or part-time student, and
  • that he or she contributed a very substantial part of the work described in the submission.

   

  The letter shall be sent to the student competition chairman:

  Failure to provide this letter results in disqualification. Email responses will be accepted, but additional information on author participation may be requested.

   

• Students wishing to participate in the contest are required to follow the regular submission process for SiRF 2010.

 

• The Student Paper Contest submissions undergo the regular Technical Program Committee (TPC) review process along with other manuscript submissions, and will not receive any special consideration for acceptance at this point.

 

• Accepted manuscripts identified as being eligible for the Student Paper Competition will then be reviewed again by the Student Paper Committee, which is selected from among the TPC. This process will result in the selection of an expected 12 finalists who will be notified separately, and will receive special recognition in the SiRF 2010 Technical Program.

 

• Finalists are expected to register for the conference. Only students presenting their paper in person at SiRF 2010 are eligible for an award. The finalists shall present both a poster and an oral presentation of their work, in order to allow an in-depth discussion with the reviewers and the audience. Details will be announced to the finalists separately.

 

• The final award selection will be made by members of the Student Paper Committee based on the manuscript, the poster and the oral presentation at SiRF 2010.
